About Us

The idea that became Habitat for Humanity in 1976 first grew from a community farm outside of Americus, Georgia, founded by farmer and biblical scholar Clarence Jordan. On the farm, Jordan and Habitat’s eventual founders Millard and Linda Fuller developed the concept of “partnership housing.”

Since 1989, individuals, businesses, and groups in our community have joined Habitat for Humanity Corpus Christi to build or improve a place people call home. We have already built 60 houses and fixed over a 100 roofs!

To this day, we use the concept centered on those in need of adequate shelter working side by side with volunteers to build decent, affordable houses. With the help of our supporters, we build the houses at no profit with an affordable mortgage, offering the families and individuals in our community a hand-up, not a hand-out.
